Last Week of School

Dear Families,

Wow, I cannot believe how quickly this year has passed!  I feel like it was just yesterday that a little band of masked Firsties came into my life.

I am so blessed to have had this time with your children.  They have grown so much.  It will be very hard to send them off the 2nd grade.  It makes me sad to think that our little family will not be together after next Friday.  I will miss them all!

The last week of school will be spent reviewing and preparing for 2nd grade.  There are a lot of fun activities planned.

We will not be having an End of the Year Party.  The class will instead be making and enjoying snacks each day that go with our themed activities.

Week of May 24th

I cannot believe that this is the last full week of school with my Firsties! 

This Year has been absolutely wonderful.  I am so proud of how hard they all worked and how much they have grown. 

The Unit 6 Test will be given on Wednesday (5/26), Thursday(5/27), and Friday(5/28).  The End of Year Math Assessment will be on Friday, May 28th.

  • Wednesday will be the Grammar and Writing Assessment.
  • Thursday will be the first Story Comprehension portion. Students will read a passage and answer questions based on the passage.
  • Friday will be the second Story Comprehension portion, Phonics and Spelling

Reading: We will be reading Fly Guy this week.  The skills we practice this week will be to review for the Unit 6 Test. 

We will be reviewing all skills covered during the past three weeks, which will include all of the High Frequency Words covered in Unit 6.

Grammar: Students will be able to identify the different types of sentences and use the correct punctuation, students will be able to use adverbs and the ly endings, and revise sentences.

Writing: Students will write a opinion piece that includes a topic sentence and reasons to support their opinion.

Spelling Homework: please make sure that you are working on completing assignments from our May Menu.  Please use the Unit 6 Spelling words for the Spelling Homework.  Spelling homework must be turned in by Friday.

Math: We will continue to review skills taught this year.  The End of Year Assessment will be on Friday, May 28th.

Science/Social Studies: We will be reviewing the Unit on Energy and learning about Wind Energy.

Religion: We will learning about Our Mother Mary.

Please make sure that your child brings to school a water bottle and a Healthy Snack.

Week of April 26th

The Unit 5 Test will be given on Wednesday (4/28), Thursday(4/29), and Friday(4/30).

  • Wednesday will be the Grammar and Writing Assessment.
  • Thursday will be the first Story Comprehension portion. Students will read a passage and answer questions based on the passage.
  • Friday will be the second Story Comprehension portion, Phonics and Spelling

Reading: There will not be a new story this week. We will review for the Unit 5 Test.

Grammar: Students will be able to use contractions,  possessive pronouns,  the pronouns I and Me, use present and past tenses of verbs, and revise sentences.

Writing: Students will write a personal narrative that includes a topic sentence and has a sequence of events.

Week of March 29th

Thank you for the donations to our Peep Activities and to our Fun Run!!

Our Class has earned over $100 a lap!

The class has earned Crazy Sock Day which will be on Tuesday, March 30th.  Students can wear crazy socks with their regular school uniforms.  The remaining rewards will be given after Easter Break.

There will be no tests this week.

Reading: The students will be working on Readers Theater plays on Monday, March 29th and presenting to the class on Tuesday, March 30th.

Math: Monday we will be using our math skills to solve the mystery: Case of the Egg Thief.  On Tuesday we will be graphing and using our jelly beans to solve equations.

Religion: We will be learning about Holy Week and Easter

Science/Social Studies: We will conducting Peep Investigations.

Wednesday is our Fun Run! (and an early release day)

Please make sure that students are in their PE uniforms and that they bring a water bottle to school.
